December 2024 Update
Hi all.
Last Posting Dates
Since it's December can I just put out there the last posting dates from here in Scotland: • Wednesday 18th December for UK post • All the rest of the World was end of November (oops)
A huge thank you!
If you ordered during November. Seeing Beast in the Broch get supported while I have an existential crisis fills my cold interior with a warmth akin to chewing down hot magma. Seriously, thank you! I need the support, just knowing there are still people out there interested in what I am doing is huge. Read on to see how I am attempting to give you more product, even if that road is more meandering than I would like.
Miniatures Update
My 4x STL files have been sent off to get test printed. I strongly suspect at least 2 of them will need bulked up quite a lot so this might take a while to get suitable masters. A master casting needs to survive the 5–10% bulk loss incurred in the production process, so, like all good minis, needs to have a certain amount of "chunk" to it and not just be a life-scale person down to 32mm. Once I finally see the prints I can go back to my sculptor and get adjustments made. Maybe one day these will see production. Meanwhile I might just get on with some more sculpts and try to get them chunky enough from the outset. Options could include some figures from the worlds of the Time War or the Future Freedom Fighters, there's plenty to get done. Or a good suggestion was female spaceship crew. I came up with 8x ideas for screen-used females in spaceship outfits which would fit 2 releases of 4 models each.
New Rules
I have been thinking this over for months. First of all, and as posted in November, my thoughts were to do a new lite rules set covering the Time War and the Future Freedom Fighters models, to facilitate gaming in these worlds free of imperial entanglements. But not only is this reinventing the wheel again, it would also invalidate all the current rules I have just put up on this website.
Is the solution to keep with the DWMG, update the rules for 2024/5 – after all since the DWMG was originally written I have authored both the original 7TV and it's sequel 7TV2. Both took the DWMG rules and worked with them, so why not further refine the DWMG rules for the present day. Missions, objectives, and most importantly, rules for models operating in squads/units.
These rules – say for now I call them "DWMG: Time War" would initially be an update document designed to work with the core rulebook, but could then progress to a full rules update, so that this hypotetical new rulebook would be all you would need. Future Freedom Fighters stats and specific rules could be released to fit within this rules framework. But that, is, as they say, in the future.
Subscribe?
Back in the day, I would release content every month, a good few pages, usually taking in a whole story of stats, background, new rules and a scenario or two. This is what I'm considering doing again, with one difference. This time it would be great to be supported as a content creator. I am considering making all manner of new content for both the Time War and Future Freedom Fighters backgrounds, but asking my readers to contribute in a very small way towards this. A members-only set of webpages, or blog posts could contain all this new material, and I would ask for (say) £2, the cost of half a Starbucks per month as an ongoing subscription to gain very early access to all this material. Having the support of my consumers would be a massive boost to me, you have no idea. This would also allow you to:
Feedback to me on future releases (do you have a favourite story or miniature idea?)
Gain access to exclusive discount offers
Join in with conversations with myself and the rest of the supporters
I will work on this in December, as well as working on maybe some core rules updates and probably a whole story's worth of release, as an example of what you would get and how this would work. As time allowed, other material would be made available for everyone. How does this sound?
Feedback
I will send this blog out on the Beast website, on the Beast and DWMG Facebook pages, and via the email newsletter I have set up. So there's plenty of ways you can feedback to me.
